If you don’t know Givenchy then there’s no helping you. Making their biggest mainstream splash with Audrey Hepburn, a la Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Givenchy has always had a sleek feeling. Their relevance skyrocketed again this year with Clare Waight Keller designing Meghan Markles wedding dress. Classic elegance is the name of their game.
Which is why the Haute Couture collection they debuted this year is arguably simple, but very on brand. That said there are a number of clear nods to the late house’s founder Hubert de Givenchy, who passed away in March this year. Moon River, a song not feautered in the above video, played while the largely black and white collection made its way around the garden.
Draped dresses, metal statement pieces, capes and feathers all make an appearance. For those a little less nerdy you’d be correct to think that this is all old school grace. For anyone a little more nerdy, you can’t help but think the whole collection was designed for a Star Wars queen. Hepburn would wear this, Amidala would wear this, and I’m not saying I’d kill for it – but I’m not saying I wouldn’t.
