Charles Van Maarschalkerweerd Borg may have the bougiest name I’ve ever seen written, but he met Ron Van Maarschalkerweerd Borg in 1992 before forming their fashion house – Charles & Ron.
Based in Malta their flagship stores may be geographically isolated, but the designs pop up around the world. Their credentials are impressive and their website outlines their achievements, and celebrities who wear their line, best:
“CHARLES & RON WERE ONE OF THE FEW DESIGNERS THAT WERE SELECTED IN 2018 TO EXHIBIT ONE OF THEIR COUTURE DESIGNS AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE FOR THE COMMONWEALTH FASHION EXCHANGE. THE EXHIBITION CURATED BY VOGUE’S HAMISH BOWLES ALSO FEATURED STELLA MCCARTNEY, BURBERRY AND KAREN WALKER AMONG OTHERS. THE NIGHT WAS A FIRST AT THE PALACE AND GUEST INCLUDED ; NAOMI CAMPELL AND ANNA WINTOUR WHO COMPLIMENTED THE DESIGNERS ON THEIR DESIGN.”
The fashion houses summer / spring collection, first launched in September last year at New York fashion week, is colourful to say the least. Haven taken inspiration from childhood photographs and memories of Maltese beach days the collection translates this into some truly fun prints. So combined with a price tag that doesn’t make you want to gouge out the eyes of the 1%, if you’re looking for something fun from a fashionhouse that’s well respected then this could be the way to go.
